It’s been a while, but my recollection is that it was a relatively interesting setup but the plot (and especially the climax) were pretty disappointing. Seemed like it mainly got attention because it focused on China and Chinese protagonists in a sci-fi setting, which felt very contemporary or even a bit avant garde to western readers.

Anyone else a fan of Liu Cixin's book series and eager to see the Netflix adaptation? Benioff/Weiss/Woo are running it (Hi Sir Davos Seaworth & Samwell Tarly!) so I am cautiously optimistic.
The book series = Remembrance of Earth's Past. Loved the first (3 Body Problem) and almost finished with the second (The Dark Forest). The third/final is Death's End.
