the LSU women's basketball team is catnip. I think the actually like being villains, whether they will admit it or not.

And I’ll note that social media has run amok with Caitlin Clark criticism in the last month.

She seems to get a similar following. They are very similar players. The ability to shoot that well with unlimited range makes her unique.
And the notion that she’s getting all of this publicity because she’s white is silly. A bunch of the all time greats - Taurasi, Lobo, Sue Bird - were also white and they didn’t get anywhere close to the level of attention that Clark gets.

1) The default response from some is that Caitlin Clark gets this level of attention/fanfare because she’s white, and there’s no doubt a component of that which is true. But it’s also because she’s good in a way that is different than all those previous great players, no one has ever shot the ball from deep like her before. She is the female Stephen Curry. And let’s be honest, it wasn’t appointment television for anyone to watch a center like Breanna Stewart that was just bigger than everyone else.
2) The talent in women’s basketball has certainly come a long way since the days of Lobo, but goodness do the few very elite players still look like they’re playing a different sport. Even on the best teams you’d go from great plays by Clark and Reese to some truly gross bricks and missed layups by their other teammates. That definitely makes the star power feel more noticeable in the women’s game, to a much larger degree than it does in the men’s game. A guy from Yale can look like the best player on the court in a given night in the men’s game, there will never be a game against a lower quality opponent where the likes of Caitlin Clark or JuJu Watkins don’t move around the court in a completely different way than everyone else.
I also don’t know why ESPN keeps trying to make Jay Williams a thing, he has always come across very fake and generally unlikeable.

insisting that Caitlin Clark can't be the GOAT if she doesn't win a National Championship (or, in Lobo's case, multiple National Championships), played for easily the most prominent programs in their respective sports.
Lobo specifically mentioned Breanna Stewart as someone with whom Clark can't compete because Stewart won four National titles in four years.
Honey, when Breanna Stewart started school, UConn had 6 national titles in 13 seasons. The fact that Breanna Stewart also won national titles doesn't make her the GOAT, it just means she went to UConn. Does anyone think UConn wouldn't have won national titles during that time frame if Stewart had gone elsewhere?
Clark's run at Iowa is much more impressive. Iowa was a middle-of-the-road B1G program and she's one game away from taking them to a second consecutive title game while being the all-time leading scorer in NCAA history.
Just a completely ridiculous position to take. And of course Jay Williams chimes in with the same shit. Going to Duke is taking the easy way out. You want to be a GOAT? Win at a school where no one else has won.
