#1 A week and a half ago, my mom finished up some shopping at the WalMart and left her purse in the cart as she pushed it into the corral. She realized this when she arrived at her next stop. By the time she drove back to WalMart (10 minutes) the purse was gone. I asked the security lady to check the tape and she confirmed that the very next person who put their cart away simply walked off with her purse. Police told her that there's not much they can do about it. That sucks, but I get it.
#2 Last week, my mom stopped by the DMV to get a new license plate sticker. Afterwards, she is walking down the sidewalk as 3 people get into some sort of domestic dispute. Guy shoves his lady friend into my mom and she falls, smashing her head on the concrete. I'm amazed that she didn't break a hip or wrist or something. The 3 people take off running while 2 eyewitnesses and a DMV lady looked after her. I took her to the ER and she was admitted to ICU because of bleeding on the brain. 5 days later, she is back home, but I've seen enough to know that she is not returning to normal. Or it's going to be a long road at least. She can barely walk and keeps forgetting where she is. She was a super active, smart, healthy, 88 year old lady who spent 6 hours a day gardening. Now this, and she's not happy about it.
