There's currently 7 books released. It's a bunch of fun, the style is called lit-RPG. Basically aliens turn the earth into a level by level style video game/RPG entertainment show. Carl and his ex-girlfriends cat are the main characters (of the book, not necessarily the show). I guess the author had self-published the first 5 or 6 books and then got a book deal.
