"Your humble smith has lived in Chicago for about two decades now. When traveling and talking with other travelers, it's not infrequent to meet someone from Chicagoland. There are a lot of us. Sometimes I find fellow travelers who say they're from Chicago. Then I ask the question that suburbanites abroad dread; "Oh, awesome Me too! What neighborhood?" At this point, the cornered suburbanite realizes to their dread that they've come upon someone who has a zip code that starts with 606. An actual Chicagoan. Trapped, they avert their eyes. Sweat forms. Then comes the sheepish reply of "Naperville" or "Arlington Heights". Then I try to find something nice to say about either suburb based on one of the two times I've ever been there. They explain how they used to live in the City or try to get there a lot. We part ways. This is a quiz about those places beyond the safety and comfort of Chicago's city limits. Venturing there isn't for the faint of heart. It means getting on a Chicago freeway with Chicago drivers. But they're interesting in and of themselves, so let's get to know these lands beyond the pale in this quiz. Probably PG for those from the metro area and hopefully accessible enough for non-dwellers to have some fun. Enjoy!" |
