If baseball expanded/realigned, what would you like to see?

I'm for 2 leagues, 4 divisions. Try and keep "natural rivals together (Cubs/Cards, RedSox/Yankees, Padres/Dodgers) but would love if teams switched leagues. Colorado in the AL West could be fun. Put Brewers in a new AL North (or Central).

...the Red Wings and Blackhawks are not in the same division anymore.

Not even making it about the Blues (as much as I loved the old Norris), but the Hawks and Wings being apart is like... well... pretty much the majority of college sports realignment.

I really really hate the big ten expansion and breakup of the Pac 12. It's going to wind up being a really bad idea in the long term.

There is the former Charlotte Pipe & Foundry, where Tepper wants to build a whole sports complex. They could add on to the Knights stadium and move the Knights. Or, most likely, they would just locate the stadium outside of Uptown Charlotte.

the list is Nashville, Charlotte, Salt Lake City, Austin and maybe Portland.

And why would they spend all that money for a downtown baseball stadium AAA? I think and then abandon it for a major league baseball stadium if they cannot expand it.

I agree with you. I think that it’s a pipe dream thinking that Raleigh could get one, but he knows some people who have ‘Fuck you’ money. He works in finance and he says that there’s one person who’s committed to trying to get a team here.

Again, I don’t see it.

my main takeaway is that I'd want one of the expansion teams to be west of the Mississippi because a Nashville/Charlotte combo, for example, makes St. Louis the 'best fit' to fill out a division of Texas or mountain west type of division which would just be dumb.

A Chicago/Chicago/St. Louis/KC division would be fun. But again to make divisions work geographically, then KC would also need to be paired more to the south/west for it to make sense. In that case swap out KC for Nashville.

but my first job out of graduate school was working for an economic development consultiing firm. We were actually hired to do a feasibility study on the potential of a major league baseball team in Portland. Mind you this was 30 years ago, and a lot has changed, but our answer was a hard no that it's not a big enough market, and frankly it wasn't really close. It's just not that big of a city, and it would also significantly infringe on the Mariners.
