What do we do? He can still be effective when we can get him outside or in space on wheel routes. But we can't forecast that when he's in it's either pass blocking (which he's also not great at) or something to the outside.

Laughery also appears to be made of glass. For now, I guess, #Feed5.

He’s got tremendous straight line speed for a guy his size but no immediate burst. If he was sitting those stacked boxes with a head of steam, he could still do real damage at his size even without great vision. But he just doesn’t hit the hole with any authority.

but I would bulk up matt bailey to play LB next year.

I know the coaches and the beat love to talk him up at safety as a sydney brown lite, but I just don't see it. he doesn't have the speed or agility to play in that much space, but he is tough, smart, and strong, and his athleticism would play much better in that position.

and I think it's better for his long term NFL chances as well. he's not going to be an NFL safety, so he might as well begin the transition now. jamien sherwood, the jets starting MLB, is a converted college safety, so there is some precedent here for the right profile, and I think bailey may fit that profile pretty well.

Now, it just so happened that the “best storyline” was between and ACC school and an SEC school rather than 2 ranked Big Ten teams

I just can’t get there because I think there’s almost no chance of it being truly competitive, I’m not sure it can be the biggest game of the century when you’re like 17-21 point dogs (I’m guessing?) with almost no chance of winning.

Last year’s Michigan game and even this year’s USC game felt far bigger going into them because they were both super important but also winnable. And I feel like the atmosphere will reflect that.

Because there are a bunch of other games that felt just as big leading up to them, but fell flat because of how the season played out. Even 1990 Colorado seems huge in retrospect because it was Colorado's only loss en route to a national title, but the game itself wasn't actually a sellout.

But, I think based on the criteria roughy is using there, 1989 Michigan has to be in the conversation (#8 vs. #3 for a Big Ten title).

As for this Ohio State game--could very well be just as big, but will depend on how we play and the significance of the game in retrospect. Leading up to it, I doubt the hype will be anything like the others on his list.

We’ve played about all zone to limit Browne runs. Later in the game their OC will want to stay in the pocket and throw. Browne can’t do that vs man, he’s not good enough and I don’t think his WRs are good enough to get open against. Use Rosiek as a spy.

I’d try that for at least one drive, I think it would sufficiently confuse them for a series to steal a drive back.

Caught up with my buddy who played for Painter at Eastern.

Said the spent time over the summer. He basically said Painter feels like it’s easy to say on top when Purdue/Illinois/MSU are the only teams with consistency. Almost every other team will change coaches every 3-4 years and it’s hard to break into that group.

Only caveat is Painter thought Dusty May could stick in that group.
