Good and very experienced player but I wonder if he’s a notch below what the elite programs (including Penn State) would prioritize. Probably still out of our league regardless but wouldn’t totally rule us out as an option.

Didn't place the IFund order through the DIA as we're still not 100% locked in to going.

That said, if / once we are - what's the best way to get tickets? University ticket office still selling, or just go through Seat Geek or other aftermarket?

Saw that nash posted the suggestion below for 200 level seats.

It seems like the University's seat allotments often suck

We have east balcony seats at Memorial Stadium... part of the family 4 pack. So i don't really care to be in the balcony at Nissan Stadium. I got mine for $60 a seat. Part of this for me is we're taking the 8 and 10 year old. If it's a blowout, or the weather is shit, if I bail I don't want to feel too bad about it.

14 INTs and 6.7 YPA is terrible. indicates he can't read the field. his average yards per rush is 1.9, so he doesn't do anything for you off schedule scrambling with the ball.

I think you can continue to have good 7-9 win seasons under Henry, but I don’t think we can play playoff level defense under him.

I think Bret will say he's still a young coach learning to be a DC. Now maybe we shouldn't have a guy learning on the job, but we do. Hopefully they can add a veteran guy as an "analyst" to help him out, a la Leonhard a few years ago.

Miller's probably got even less of case to stay on but I'm still not sure there isn't a disconnect between him and Lunney as to the scheme/talent we have.

mentee of Bret, D played much better against average teams, not a talented group, Henry arguably our best recruiter, etc.

i think we can upgrade there, but i think the talent on the roster held us back more than Henry. easy for Bret to talk himself into retaining Henry. Defense was almost the same in 2025 from 2024 in terms of FEI (55 in 2025, 57 in 2024.)

we are really bad at running the football and have been during Bret's tenure. Even when we had C Brown his YPC was only 5.0, which is not great statistically. he was skilled enough to break off enough long ones to go 1 yard, 1 yard, 3 yards, 15 yards, that sort of thing. if you look at the average YPC for the top 50 backs in a given year it is usually above 6.0. All that to say, i would like to move on from Bart Miller. don't know if we will.

something to be said for coach retention and knowing what you are going to get from the coaches. i'll trust Bret on those decisions.

I could sorta understand the Western Illinois game... needed more reps since we did a line-change at WR. But I really wanted to see more of the backups in the Rutgers and Maryland game. And I don't think we did. If for no other reason the bowl game.

nothing wrong with that, but i think that's the direction this stuff is going.

average possessions are way down in college football due to the new clock rules. teams have decided to play at a very slow pace on top of that to maximize their possessions. They want to get into the right play because they might get 10 possessions in the game instead of 15.

Army played a game this year where each team had 6(!) possessions. they are an obvious outlier in how they like to play, but i think the P4 school with the slowest pace of play was Ohio State.

more than anything the parity people talk about in college football is due to the pace of play and not the transfer portal or NIL. with 10 possessions in a game it is hard for a really talented team to outpace and blow out a lesser team in the second half.

It was 21-6 going into the 4th... it's 2 possessions. You can't really pull Luke and then put him back in if we do something stupid. But that Rutgers game, we were up 35-6 going into the 4th, and they did score a TD in the 4th... but it was never in doubt.

that's been about the fall off around college football. average game was about 12 possessions, current games are about 10 possessions.

was not uncommon pre clock changes for games to have 15 or 16 possessions per team. the Bama Clemson NC game in 2017 had something like 35 total possessions.

not sure recruiting HS QBs is a worthwhile endeavor at Illinois

maybe a small chance you land a 5* that you will only get by promising him he will play as a FR (and stink as a FR because they almost all do. then he transfers because he's pissed about that.)

much larger chance you recruit a player that needs a couple years to see the field, he and you won't have the patience for that, maybe you retain him two seasons.

not sure the point of either of those options for a school like Illinois. Better off to keep your powder dry and grab transfers every year and take 2-3 walkons if you have to for kids to throw it in practice.
