Obviously a lot of other things can happen that would change this, but it really feels like the most likely scenario is that this comes down a loser leaves town Sunday Night Football Lions vs. Bears game in week 18.

But if Detroit beats LA this weekend, it likely wouldn’t matter unless the Bears beat 1 of GB and SF beforehand, if Detroit would hold the tiebreaker should both end up at 11-6.

They should opt out of any bowls if that happens *

but probably only mildly so. 11-6 would be such an outperformance as it relates to expectations that it would be hard to be super disappointed. and the arrow seems to be squarely pointed up. i could prove to be wrong but this doesn't feel like a one-year wonder.

There’s people out there who think they are intentionally rolling Caleb left a lot because throwing across his body is forcing him to keep his mechanics sound. But even if that’s the case, that’s a tough throw to make even if Kmet was open for a second - and required your young QB that has struggled with processing to make the split second correct decision.

Maybe the first option on the play was to hope Swift was left uncovered or that a clear run lane was there for Caleb, which would be a higher % play call in that spot. Butif Kmet wasn’t the first read then it’s even less likely that Caleb would have been able to pull the trigger on that throw before the window closed.

sounded like swift or a run were options one. lafleur said packers actually were playing run and blew the coverage, but they ended up having a ton of guys right in front of caleb. Kmet was open, but Nixon recovered and caleb had waited too long.

it does seem like a pretty low percentage play in retrospect especially when you just need a yard for four shots at the end zone. that said they completed it last week, and caleb picked up good yardage on a very similar boot earlier in the game.

The Bears were allowed to pretty blatantly hold him for much of the game, and it’s getting a lot of attention from both the media and the Packers themselves complaining about it postgame.

Should probably be prepared to not get away with that again.

The former offers the key H2H but they might go 12-5. The latter assures Detroit is 11-6 or worse but I don’t know about second tier tiebreakers.

I’m sure the formulas are out there, I just haven’t looked yet.

Where the Lions also are 11-6, knocks the conversation down to the fifth tiebreaker (Strength of victory in all games) and I think Detroit wins that (KC, LA, TB against LV, SF, NO). Both Chicago and Detroit would be 1-1 H2H, 2-4 vs. NFCN, 9-5 vs. common opponents and 7-5 vs. NFC.

If you beat the Browns and Niners but lose to Detroit you need SF to lose @ Indy week 16 or against Seattle in week 18. But that last game seems like a risky one to rely on considering Seattle could have clinched its seed by then.

Beating the Browns and Packers only to lose the final two games is another wrinkle. You'd need Detroit to have dropped two of three entering that game to make it moot. If they only lose one, then that game would be for the seventh seed.

Packers at Broncos, Lions at Rams.

Even with a Bears win, the playoff outlook starts to get pretty dicey if both GB and DET steal wins in those games. But if they both lose, Bears have a lot of control over the division with both teams still coming to Chicago.

This all assumes that the Bears don’t lay an egg against the Browns.

I’m not a sunshine blower about him and worry that the downfield accuracy isn’t fixable. Dallas will be favored in their last 4 which would get them to 11-5-1 if they win them all, and I still think 11-6 is as high as the Bears are going to get.

Lions have a much tougher remaining schedule, including a game at Soldier Field that the Bears have control over.

And as much as I’ve tried to convince myself otherwise, Jordan Love is one of the very best QB’s in the league which it pains me to say. Just not fair that Green Bay fans have gotten to live this charmed life for what will be 3+ decades.

If the Bears can win this one, then the sky is the limit and you really start thinking big about not just making the playoffs but maybe even winning a game or two. But I have a hard time seeing it, will really need a significant step up in performance from Caleb to make it happen.
