Everyone but Kylan and Ben have eligibility and none are currently projected as 1st round picks. Wagler could get there, couple other guys maybe could, and you never know with Euros when they might decide to just go back home and make money.

But imagine this team coming back with senior Tomi, senior Big Z, senior Andrej, sophomore Mirk, and sophomore Wagler. And who knows where things could be at with guys like Petrovic or Lee, before we even talk about adding a big time transfer.

Again I know this is pointless to dream about, but on paper you’d think that each of these guys would be more than 50/50 to be back as of now if viewed in isolation.

he's been a good defender and rebounder all year. Against Tennessee, he really kept the ball alive a few times in the second half during our run.

If his shot is not falling, he still brings a lot of value to the team in more limited minutes. If he can sink 3s, well, it's even better. Last year, if his shot wasn't falling, he didn't bring anything to the table and was a net negative in some respects on D and the boards.

He seems really lumbering right now, and I don’t think it’s fully conditioning. Has he put on too much weight? It doesn’t look like it to the naked eye, but there’s a slowness to his movements that go beyond being tired.

His rebound numbers are 4, 3, 4, 5, 10, 5, 2 (and I missed the 10 game)

He was never an explosive athlete, but it just doesn’t look… smooth right now.

I missed UConn, his best game, so I could be skewed. But he just looks lumbering to me. Completely aside from hitting 3’s, and aside from getting tired, there’s just a slowness there that I’m noticing. Like people say Mirk is a lumbering runner (which he is), and a below the rim athlete (which he is), but he looks like lightning compared to Tomi right now. At least to me.

Maybe it is just still the conditioning. We’ll see.

It was tremendous. Thornton had 10 points in the second half but didn’t make a 3, and only had one basket that was not a fast break first or last minute layup.

Andrej was able to play without fouling, kept himself in the game so he could be an offensive force too (13 second-half points). Great game by him.

OTOH, I want to talk about Kylan’s D lately.

It’s been… weirdly meh. Falls asleep a bunch, lack of effort in places, communicating poorly. It’d be one thing if it was just when he’s had to take on the scoring load. But it’s happening even in the games where he’s not.

Also every game Kylan’s conditioning shows up late. That beef for a guard is coming with a price tag late in games.

If you can put him on a shooter who is gonna run around screeners or play more of a stationary game mostly around the perimeter, he’s great. Like when he locked down Mark Sears, or to use a player from the past he’d probably totally lock down a guy like Jason Bohannon.

But if it’s against a guard who likes to attack the basket, it’s just not as impactful. I do think he wears them down a bit by how tightly he guards out to 25-30 feet, but on an individual possession that tactic often seems to lead to them eventually driving right past him and requiring help from the bigs.

I think traditionally he was just a scorer but Underwood very clearly had high hopes that he could develop into the type of defender we saw last night.

because it’s easy to forget that Ayo still had a lot of limitations his freshman year. It’s a bit hard to compare because had to be a high volume player on a terrible team, but I think Wagler is better by a decent margin.

Obviously junior year Ayo was on a whole other level, but I doubt we’ll get the chance to see that version of Wagler.

Refs like to give the ball to the team that got fouled in those situations instead of calling a foul. But they know it'll get overturned on replay so can't really do it in the last 2 minutes. And now with coaching challenges, even less so.

And yes "instead of calling a foul" in tonight's game is very ironic.
