Twenty years ago I went to all sorts of shows, whether Assembly Hall, Canopy, the Union, even the Urbana post office

I'll look every now and then out of curiosity and there's nothing for a good year that I'd have any interest in. And it's not that those tours aren't happening anymore. They're just all going to Bloomington (either).

Castle Theatre in Bloomington is a great venue. Saw Iron & Wine last year. Awesome.

1.) I really wish they'd figure out how to get a couple of stadium shows in Memorial Stadium... quite a few P4 schools use their stadium for events in the summer (even if just once a year or so). Obviously trying to redo Farm Aid would be awesome but there's gotta be some country shit that would sell 50,000 seats.

2.) Overall CU needs a smaller/medium sized venue. The Virginia Theatre is not really the best for the smaller shows but it's OK... and there's a real gap for suitable venue for 2-6,000 seat shows.

The proposed hockey arena would have solved that, and in a good location (downtown). I think you either can do a multi-sport venue that would work for that... OR there are examples of smaller music/event venues out there that would be good.

For example, I will never go to a concert at Mercedes-Benz Stadium or the Peterson Events Center again. Both of those places are garbage for live music.

I think SFC is fine if you have a full concert in the round, but the theatre setup is kinda meh... and there's a lot of competition with basketball for dates?

I thought the major complaint was load in / load out with shitty and/or minimal dock space...

...and as concerts became more elaborate it became infeasible to play SFC.

A band will hang onto the "Christian" part of their description for decades even if they aren't writing it into their lyrics so they can continue to sell in Christian bookstores, get festival gigs, youth group plugs. This was very much a thing for Tooth & Nail label bands in the 2000s.

I bought a CD at Goodwill a while back that I just thought was a metal band I'd never heard of.

After frontman Bob Mould departed from Hüsker Du, he released two solo ventures, the critically acclaimed Workbook as well as Black Sheets of Rain. Mould parted ways with Virgin Records in 1991, and toured the world as a solo performer while writing and performing dozens of new songs. Mould enlisted David Barbe and Malcolm Travis as the rhythm section for future recording sessions.

In early 1992, Mould, Barbe and Travis rehearsed thirty songs in the back of a tire shop in downtown Athens, Georgia. The band was named in a Waffle House restaurant in Athens, when Mould spotted a sugar packet on the table where he and the other two band members were sitting. Their first concert was on February 20, 1992, at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, Georgia.

I came close to getting Maiden tickets

But I don’t like Anthrax or Megadeth, and they are big enough names they will both get hour long sets, with less time for Maiden. So the other big names in the triple bill actually stopped me from buying a ticket rather than encouraging me.

But I may end up having to see Ed Sheeran because a HS friend of my oldest son is opening for him. She went viral covering one of his songs, and he flew her out to London to record with him and offered her two opening slots on his stadium tour.
