#Bears stadium update: The Illinois House Revenue & Finance Committee meeting that was scheduled for 8am today isn’t happening. And the last I heard, the mega projects bill wasn’t even going to be called on.

Don’t know about the Chicago legislators that want the Bears to pay off stadium debt but I do feel like there’s probably a deal to be had

Seems like now it just comes down to if the Indiana handout is too sweet to pass up or do they want what they actually asked for at the start.

Hammond vs. Arlington Heights:

it's probably a draw on proximity to season ticket holders on which is closer. hammond would certainly be closer if you lived in, say, tinley park.

both are on highways- hammond is on the skyway, which costs $7.80, AH is on 53, which is not a tollway. the highway network for ingress and egress is also more robust for AH.

AH has a train station on site. hammond has a train station about 2 miles away.

Not to mention the Bears themselves who are hq'd in Lake Forest which is where most of the players live.

Even so there is no way anyone is getting through the skyway in less than a half hour from downtown on a Bears day.

I'm hardly the expert here, but my impression has always been that there are 3 major issues that are forcing relocation:
1) Current location is an iconic spot that's impossible to get to. No good way to fix that.
2) Not a dome, and they want a Super Bowl. Can't really fix that on current site.
3) The park district would book Taylor Swift on a Saturday night before Bears/Packers without hesitation. The playability of the surface means nothing to the ownership of the facility.

2 & 3 are effectively fixed by moving anywhere. The problem I've felt about the team moving to NW Indiana isn't about crossing state borders. It's about any improvement in #1 is nullified by putting it a half hour further from the geographic center of the fanbase.

FWLIW, Bears had veto rights over stadium usage from say, Sept-December.

Concerts at Soldier were probably out unless it was an away weekend.

They've used a version of this tactic at every road block throughout the entire process. People hate on KW, but IMO, the Bears will end up in AH and this will have been a masterclass in successfully negotiating with hostile state and local governments
