Nothing seems to be wrong … and we’re not wasteful.”

Bills introduced that would have temporarily frozen electricity rates in West Virginia or helped those who are most vulnerable went nowhere this year in the state legislature even though increased energy costs are often passed on to ratepayers. The Public Service Commission has approved a flurry of rate hikes in recent years as private utilities grapple with maintaining profits while improving infrastructure in a mountainous, sparsely populated state.

She was behind on her bill, but said she would have been able to pay the necessary chunk of the $4,000 she owed if she could have stayed open long enough to fulfill the holiday orders. Instead, the shut-off forced her out, leaving the tenants living in apartments upstairs without heat too.

“Once I started getting those high electric bills in the winter, I was like, ‘This will be what closes me down,’” she said, adding the bakery was her dream and the loss has her thinking maybe it would be better to just leave the state altogether. “West Virginia is holding back a lot of people because they are allowing these bills to be so high.”

JD just wants the big desk. i don't think he really has any scruples about how it happens. he would have done it on day 1 if he could have pulled it off.

but especially as we get later into the summer, if we're still BSing around iran, trump's approvals are still in the shitter, and the impending midterms are looking bleak, i could see a palace coup.

i think hegseth and RFKJr would never flip, but little marco would go absolutely along. i think a lot of the lower positions are kind of windsocks and could be talked into it.

the biggest issue would be the house and senate votes, but i think if it started looking like they were clearly going to lose the senate as well as the house, and the leadership of the old guard GOP felt like it gave them a chance to hang on to the senate, they might consider it.

super longshot on all of this, though. it's risky and you don't want to kendall roy this thing if you're JD. the risk calculus is more to just wait out the great big beautiful blood clot.

Thought is that more land will be opened up for logging, mining and development.

Probably going to result in more & larger fires with more property damage without people trained to manage wildfires. (Unsure the effect regarding the actual firefighters.) There will be a pause and haggling for a bit with both sides in the media. The Iranians will certainly utilize their influence in the information sphere that is probably their most successful tool. They are far from honest brokers though and I doubt the US ends up on terms with them.

In a couple weeks I expect more bombing when the US doesn’t get what it wants.
