It would put Minnesota 29million until the first apron and 41.5 million under the 2nd Apron. Could pay Ayo 22mil year one and still be under the 2nd apron after they fill out their roster.

the ideal scenario where the Bulls nail this pick is still unlikely to give them the ‘best player on a title contender’ level player that will be needed. But if it’s Wilson/Boozer in addition to Giddey/Buzelis, you hopefully see the development in those guys that can get you to the point where you’re one superstar player away. And just hope that someone eventually hits free agency that has interest in the Bulls, even if that rarely happens anymore.

The Bulls have absolutely NOTHING right now. Buzelis is gonna be a really good player in the next year or 2, and Josh Giddey is decent I suppose. Otherwise they are literally desperate for anyone who can produce.

Cam Boozer can produce and he will right out of the gate. If he fell to the 4th spot, it would be a steal for Chicago IMO.

If you call it by the book in a game that he’s in, there’s almost no point in playing the game. So they essentially can’t call it fairly.

But seed 1-16 let the best 4 records pick their preferred play in teams. Top 12 seeds will be the top 6 from each conference by record. 13-16 be the play in teams. We could have OKC and San Antonio on other side of the bracket from one another

And for the all the basketball snobs who insist it’s a better product and for all the narratives about how analytics have solved basketball, there is a lot of shitty basketball across the league.

And that’s not even getting into the injuries, load management and tanking. The basketball is just not as consistently good as you’d expect.

The highs are obviously unparalleled. But there are some pretty severe lows out there too.

solid drafting history. They probably win at least 1 title if Derrick Rose stayed healthy. His reluctance to get on the court and inability to stay there after the injury totally derailed everything and ruined multiple seasons. Maybe they could have handled it better but the Rose camp was very tough to deal with.

He even left a pretty good roster all things considered for the AKME regime. Paxson would have never drafted Patrick Williams and certainly wouldn't given him that huge deal. Hopefully the AKME connection doesn't remain strong today.

hire in Chicago history, which is a long list.

But they drafted extremely well given their position in most drafts. Did fairly well identifying and acquiring free agents, but indeed missing on the big fish.

Whoever is running the Bulls next will have similar issues in that Chicago is a cold weather city where the big stars always seem to pass on. Maybe they'll find a way to turn that around but for now it'll come down to lotto luck. The roster is mostly a blank slate, but they have all their draft picks and if the next guys are able to draft as well as GARPAX, that will be a good start and miles ahead of where we were with AKME.

2020 was shortened. They finished 22-43 that year

The roster was dogshit and their draft picks were poor. They did not leave a good roster for AKME. Lavine was the only useful player which of course was acquired in the Jimmy Butler trade.

I know I'd certainly hate to have Lauri Markennen, WC jr and the Franz Wagner pick back.

but the key to that run was getting exceptionally lucky that they landed the #1 pick to select Derrick. That didn't come because they tanked and strategized to get the best odds. they had the worst odds and just happened to do it.

but other than those guys and maybe Taj Gibson what other great draft picks did they make?

Coby White was arguably the best player for the entirety of the AKME regime. Got good value for Jimmy Butler when that relationship went south. They left AKME a LOT to work with, which they parlayed into a total of one playoff victory.

There were obviously bad ones too, and got very sloppy at the end (promising Chandler Hutchinson they'd take him at 21, trading up for Dougy McBuckets. Still a solid player but way overpaid for him).

He's a solid nba center and good defensive player. Something the Bulls haven't had in a while.

The Vooch trade wrecked the AKME regime before it ever really got started. A flat out disaster they never even really tried to recover from.

James Johnson wasn't a bad pick. Tony Snell and Bobby Portis had some decent years as well. They were mid-round picks at best. Even though we all hated them by the end and they needed to go, they were leaps and bounds better than their successors.

and Wendell Carter was the #7 overall pick. He should be more than just a "solid NBA center and a good defensive player." and how much of that can be attributed to development he's received in the 6 years he's been in Orlando?

as for the other guys...being "better than their successors" doesn't make someone a good pick. they provided little to nothing of value to the Bulls. James Johnson averaged 7.4 ppg and 3.5 rpg for his career, both of which were better than the 1+ year he spent in Chicago. That's terrible. Tony Snell averaged 6.1 ppg/2.3 rpg. Bobby Portis was the best of the three, averaging 12.1 ppg/7.1 rpg. But that was mostly after they dealt him to Washington. He had a good 3rd year with them but that's it. Players being putting up decent numbers for other teams doesn't mean you drafted well in selecting them.

I'll never get over how bad the Vooch trade ended up, though. Two first round picks and a decent young center for a one-way, older center. The Bulls were routinely in the bottom 3 for rim defense during the Vooch years and they never did anything to address it. They were absolute cunts about it too. Good riddance.

they had nowhere higher to go in the postseason. He was playing Derrick 40+ minutes in preseason games and running Joakim out there 40+ minutes/game immediately after returning from injury.

Reinsdorfs deciding to just go back to their old Reinsdorf guy generally is not something that has worked out.

Maybe he is something that will work out but I think the Reinsdorfs hiring a longtime Reinsdorf guy should be met with great skepticism

When he got on campus I was really skeptical about him being a 5 star talent because of how unathletic he was. He was 6’5” and could barely dunk and couldn’t get past athletic defenders off the dribble at all.
