good at reasoning, but you basically have to bring your own data. Want a folder full of notes summarized and sorted, no problem. Create a study guide from a long pdf, great. Provide an accurate answer to a question, 50/50.

Perplexity and later Gemini models are better at research, because their tools are better at navigating out to the web and other data sources for current info.

What I saw, of the 10 listed, 2 are not scientists, at least 2 others have no connection to national security work. So you're talking about 6 out of thousands, maybe tens of thousands who could fit that description, dying over the course of 2 or 3 years.

I’m not saying that will happen, that’s the argument. Airline prices with the major carriers have been getting cheaper and cheaper over the years. *. Trend continued when we went from 4 to 3 when Continental and United merged. Don’t know why going from 3 to 2 would be different than that.

you are arguing that industry consolidation and rising oil prices are leading to increases in fares. i am arguing that inflation adjusted, prices to fly have come down dramatically for consumers on a trend that is at least 30 years long (it's probably like 48 years since 1978.)

explain to me why the BTS data is wrong and it's more expensive to fly in real prices now despite almost 5 decades of industry consolidation and higher oil prices in real dollars.

i'll save you the time. you cannot do that. it is significantly cheaper to fly today than it was 10 years ago in real dollars - about $100 per domestic fare.

I think it’s on social issues where the left wing is way out of step with swing voters, and where purity tests could really hurt the party electorally. As badly as Trump has fumbled the issue, immigration is still not popular. And the constellation of “woke” issues are really unpopular.

Was to extend the DMZ all the way to the Thai border, cutting off the VC from the NVA and starving them out while letting the South Vietnam Army do all the counterinsurgency work while the US dug into prepared positions on the DMZ to keep the NVA out. Would have dramatically reduced US casualties and kept us away from the general population for most part. Use the 101st and 173rd airborne as the QRF for the vietnamese and basically create a fortified corridor from port of Da Nang up to the DMZ and then west. Possible but no idea if it would have worked. Definitely better than body counts. Counterinsurgency literature emphasizes cutting off the base of support of insurgents is key. Why the actions of the government of Pakistan helped doom Afghanistan for one reason.

Out of Darkness: The Germans 1942-2022 by Frank Trentmann.

I had not realized quite how unrepentant most Germans were and generally resistant even after all of the atrocities were widely known, to any sense of war guilt or general accountability.

It was only a generation later that the country really made any serious attempt at coming to grips with the Nazi period. The actual people alive and involved at the time largely did not, and opposed political or social efforts in that direction.
