I don’t know how this works for undrafted guys that played in the summer league but I assume that all would still be eligible if this holds up. Which would include Boswell.

There might not be a ton of difference makers but there will be enough to fill holes on teams that didn’t get their business done properly in the first place. Which sucks for teams like us that put ourselves in a position to be a top 3 team under the rules that existed at the time.

Watch Florida end up with Donovan Dent to fill their one empty spot in the backcourt.

But the impetus for changing to a scheme that requires fewer defensive lineman being that we can’t afford defensive linemen doesn’t exactly inspire the most confidence.

I appreciate that we’re trying something different as a way to deal with that problem, but it doesn’t sound like we made this change because of actually believing it’s a better scheme. There’s a reason d-lineman are expensive and it’s that they are very important.

Per the Chicago Sun Times, Tim Bankston was shot and killed today. Bankston was the lead guard who along with Wilson, lead the Simeon Wolverines to the 1984 Class AA State Title over Everett Stephens and Evanston. Sad to hear how he went down a similar fate like Benji did all those years ago back in the mid 80s.

Pursuit rule: Instead of a ball on first contact being dead if it crosses above or outside the antenna, a team can pursue the ball, bring it back above or outside the antenna, then play it between the antennae. Rationale: Internationally the rule is allowed, the goal is to increase rallies. It used to be a rule for women's college, but after a ref didn't GTFO of the way and broke his wrist, they abolished it. The men play under a different rule set, and they have always used it.

Subs: D2 and D3 wanted more subs. NAIA already has unlimited subs. Rationale: More participation.

Side switching: Too much time switching benches and possibly having people still heated running into each other. So they will switch sides after the second set, and possibly if there's a fifth set and a team requests to play on the other side from where they played in the fourth set. There will be no more set switches at 8 points in the 5th.

Center line rule: Reverting back to the more strict international interpretation. USA Volleyball uses a more liberal interpretation based on safety hazards being present. NCAA women's will now make the foot being completely over a fault; USA Volleyball lets play go on if there's no player around to present a safety hazard.

And that they're using transparent base layers. There's plenty of logo patches that stick out horribly and I'm sure its a conscious decision by the corporate partner for visibility sake. Sure you hate our logo here but you can distinctly see it.

Set aside what you think of the uniforms, the patch works great with them. Mentally I already associate that company with that part of the country and in this case the headquarters are right there in the city. And this is actually a sponsorship that could be more than just an ego boost and a tax expense.

It’s not just the step function decrease in talent. It’s an entirely new scheme that, by their own account, was pretty jarring for the DL in spring practice. Going from gap control to shooting gaps. Pretty different.

Then there’s the secondary. I feel much better about the talent there. But I’m pretty sure Xavier Scott and Matt Bailey missed spring practice. Which means they missed the initial install. I think Juice Clarke ran the 3-3-5 in high school. So perhaps it’s not the moon for him.

I have no idea what to make of this linebacker group. Kante has never shown the ability to play in space. Beerman is probably 7-1 by now, so who knows there. Kreutz is not talented enough. Edmonson could be good. So many question marks. Including what Hauck is going to ask them to do.

Philosophically, I agree with a more aggressive, attacking defense at the college level. I like lots of line stunts, especially early in the year when OLs haven’t fully coalesced. I like blitzes from the secondary. But I’m skeptical we can have Hauck’s system fully installed and normed before 2027. It’s why I’m cringing at these predictions of 7-5 and 8-4.

Kind of like a much better version of Giorgi, I do think he showed up on campus as a very polished product from a skillset standpoint. Feels like dramatic growth for him will really depend on what they can unlock by improving his body.

And he's unlikely to improve much on his 3pt% (37.5). But his 3-pt volume could go up, as could his usage (though not substantially so--he was already at 22%).

All that said, I wouldn't underrate what added explosiveness via body transformation might be able to do to this overall game.

My concern is less about Mirkovic not being as good as people think, but more that there are a lot of mouths to feed--Vaaks, Dre, and Tomi are all going to take up a significant chunk of possessions in their own right.

we have a giant incoming class so this class is naturally going to be smaller.....

we're ahead of Iowa, Iowa wins 9 games a year... I don't have any major concerns... I think we're going to see what we've got this year and jettison guys/look to the portal as we may need to do next winter, that's much more interesting to me right now

TL;DR after missing the walk on standard by 2" during the high school season (with some great attempts at 2" higher), but being persistent, the Mines T&F coaches decided to give LilIB a roster spot for PV for this season, and evaluate her throughout the season for future years.

It's the best she could hope for considering she was going to Mines regardless!
