Is Charleston worth a visit?

I think it’s worth visiting once but don’t plan to return. Food was great though*

Caveat: taking the word of other people who have been to both places. My only comparison is Savannah, GA. I'd go Charleston first.

Savannah was saved by Sherman and given to Lincoln as a Christmas present in 1864.

The only city notable city on Sherman's March that received a reprieve. To try to control them, they even sequestered Union troops in some of the graveyards, including Colonial Park, where you can still see the disfigured and broken gravestones to this day. So Savannah is actually one of the few vestiges of the actual "Old South" that still exists.

Meanwhile Union troops were especially brutal and destructive in Charleston as it's where the war was started in the bombing of Ft Sumter. For the most part, the city to be totally rebuilt. So if by "Old South" you mean Reconstruction....that's what you are getting.

Oh and the reason New Orleans is still Old South was that it was conquered soon after the war began.

Skip Husk and eat at FIG. Husk was one of the worst meals I’ve eaten at a restaurant, especially one so highly regarded. Caveat: this was 2017 so maybe things have changed….

Husk was very good last month.

Pimento Cheese, Country Ham and Homemade Biscuit appetizer was just awesome, and the pastrami spiced brisket with potato salad was great too.

Decent food choices, ghost tour, walking tour, Sea Dog game, can go to the beach for day trips - or can just go hang out at the beach for a few days. Folly Beach is a good time.

Gorgeous city with lots of history and good food, plus plenty of beaches. Used to go down there 2-3x a year when my best friend lived down there. Just don't go in July/August unless you want to experience humidity so thick, you can cut it with a knife
