So I had high hopes, but it SEEMS like it's going to be even more complex that I thought - first episode seems very promising

Can we make this the TV thread? I just started 3 Body Problem and enjoyed the first episode.

Basically nothing exceptional about it and the ending was terrible. Was it just that everyone was gobsmacked by a SF story whose protagonists were Chinese they didn’t notice there was nothing else interesting?

But the amount of makeup they put on the lead actors is alarming. The first episode was the worst. It’s seemed better as the season continues.

Despite not being connected to the storyline and being a bonus episode they had to throw in due to Apple ordering 2 extra episodes, the Christmas episode in season 2 is the best episode of the whole series and is in the pantheon of greatest individual episodes ever for a TV comedy.

I re-watch it every December and it’s impossible not to smile throughout most of it.

When something is happening, young people like to say it’s “lit.”

Still some good laughs and hit on some of the emotional moments, including the very last scene, but other parts had the feel of a show that has become a bit too commercialized and/or trying too hard to do what people expect it to do. The portions that were just a paid KC tourism ad that Sudekis clearly negotiated for were just kind of weird.

Reality is that it’s a show that was always going to have a hard time replicating the magic of the 1st season, since the central plot point behind the show was one that would only work for one season. It’s still good and I’ll watch all of it, but it’s never going to be able to fully replicate the COVID-era Schitt’s Creek type of positive vibes that we all so desperately needed at the time.

I don’t think anything in this season will make the first three seasons worse—that’s the benefit of a largely independent storyline. So even if it kind of stinks, if I get a few laughs, it’s a net plus.

Think of it less of Ted Lasso: The AFC Richmond Years and more of it Ted Lasso: Richmond Women's Team

They aged up the Henry character, so it's probably a timeline in which Ted feels comfortable going back. Pure speculation on my part, but I'll also guess that Henry has kept with soccer and it will be sold as being a benefit for him to also move to London with Ted and join a youth club

in their divorce, a coach who is all about positivity and good feels yet deals with anxiety and panic attacks, and includes a gay player who stays in the closet until he's no longer able, only to be fully embraced by his teammates and another player (an immigrant, no less) that refuses to support the club's main sponsor after finding out the horrible things that company has done to his home country only to, again, be supported by all of his teammates. that's a pretty "woke" show to begin with. I don't think coaching a women's team is the straw that breaks the camels back here.

It’s an episodic comedy based on an absurd premise which was in turn based on a 4 minute TV spot SNL-style sketch. Almost nothing is organic.

Who really, really enjoyed Season 1 and mostly enjoyed Season 2. The woke hammer didn't really get rolling until Season 3.

Season 1 was overwhelmingly focused on being nice, being decent to one another. And that played well across the spectrum in 2020.

My hope has always been that because this is a new show in the Lasso universe, as opposed to a show being stretched beyond it's original plan, that it should be good. The fact that they basically cut out the bulk of the mens team from the show indicates where their heads are at.
