That’ll take me to 58. There’s a very small chance I could retire tgen, but the current plan barring some real economic catastrophe is to get to my 60th birthday and then retire. I’m not opposed to continuing to work part time if I can find something interesting and flexible enough, but I have no idea how likely that will be. I enjoy the active part of the job and climbing and crawling around on buildings, but particularly my flexibility seems to be taking a hit as I age. Hopefully putting in some time (and making more time) with my gym trainer and doing stretches and yoga keeps it going til I'm mentally ready to consider part time work. But I think it's because of all the other "extra" things I do in connection with the job. If I took those off, I'd be better. But those extras make money, so it's hard to take the hit. …to save money for Social Security is not a great idea unless there’s some sort of safety net for people doing manual labor, the trades, etc. And it needs to be a lot broader and easier than the current disability system, which is not at all set up for this. Yeah, the politicians and think tankers who push the idea would have no problem doing their jobs past 65 or 67. But if you’re a bricklayer, not so much. I didn’t have that feeling at all when I moved to my job in Pittsburgh despite being in a completely new city and in a very different role than my first job.
