Genuinely curious because that monologue is not far from his other content.

Personally I thought all his monologues on SNL have been weak (but not for the same reasons) though I enjoyed the Shelby Foote bit.

The show was hamstrung by its unwillingness to have consequences for being offensive.

So the employees tell the clients/distributors they want to fuck their sisters and piss on their dads graves and okay, see you all tomorrow. Business as usual.

The whole point of the show seemed to be "its okay to be crass, especially to people's faces" and that doesn't really work for a workplace sitcom. At least one in which you're actually trying to tell a story.

Yes. The first season is mediocre at best. Had a few funny moments imo

Got better over time.

The second season is a legitimate watchable sitcom.

The third season is a very good legitimate sitcom.

The delta between the real Shane and Tires Shane vs stand up Shane probably isn’t that great.

The funny thing is the entire bit was Shane being self deprecating and taking shots at himself

It just felt cringe

The comics that I enjoy tend not to star in Bud Light commercials.

...and SNL has had both Trump and Elon host. There's a history of them giving much worse people a platform.

Why anyone would be shocked or have their undies in a bunch about this must not have been paying attention. If they'd had been around in the '60s, SNL probably would have let George Wallace try out his tight five if it would have meant getting viewers.
