The UN-backed Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned that the planet will warm by 1.5° Celsius in the next two decades without drastic cuts to pollution. The report, approved by delegates from 195 countries, said it “is unequivocal that human influence has warmed the atmosphere, ocean and land.” It says there is about a 50% chance the planet’s warming will stay below 1.5°C threshold set by the Paris Agreement. One place where rapid progress is expected is in transport, with electric cars likely to account for more than two-thirds of new-car sales by 2040, according to BloombergNEF.
