We should be welcoming the end of the TV licence fee which is a burden on the unemployed , low paid and pensioners . Why on earth do we need to pay to watch tv. Surely the abolition of the tv licence was a demand of the old CPGB ?
The BBC is part of the state machine and aren't we supposed be smashing the state ?
The arguments about the BBC being a 'public broadcaster ' ( again I seem to remember the old CPGB putting time and effort in refuting the idea that nationalisation under capitalism somehow equated socialism ) are hollow . The BBC was set up and run in such a way as to prevent lefties from taking it over ; staff were positively vetted and communists and communist sympathisers were excluded .
At the end of the day the mainstream media , whether state or private is controlled by the ruling class and the bourgeoisie .It is simply a case of the same poison but in bottles with different lablels .
