I actually agree with both of you.

I have gone through Prevent Awareness training as part of my job and it is perfectly obvious it either is or could easily be aimed at anyone "threatening" to the safety and security of the current political and civil order. That would easily include genuine socialists and communists who are serious about effecting a revolutionary change in society.

The CPB is entirely correct to try and ensure individual members do not fall foul of the potentially widespread Prevent programme through stupid and unthought through postings and comments - especially under the influence of anything. Equally the CPB absolutely does not "cooperate" with Prevent or the state authorities.

I genuinely have a lot of time for the CPGB-ML and its membership and active leaders, but I do have to say for some reason it does seem to attract a significant number who are mentally disturbed or downright mentally ill and who use alcohol or other substances to self medicate. That is blatantly obvious from some of their social media postings.

I personally would not advocate any of them being referred to Prevent or other state agency but I could well be concerned about whether some of them represent a risk to people close to them or members of the general public, when they are obviously unwell and/or self medicating, including in public recordings. Only a minority will ever actually materialise an actual risk but it is the ones who are missed where there is public scandal.

Simple message: if you feel hateful, angry or destructive to various sections of society - no matter how dressed up in politics or ideology - don't type and send - whether by text, email, social media or whatever. Writing down can be helpful and therapeutic can be helpful - but only if you or an approved medical professional can ever see it. Otherwise you are more likely to end up in prison settings than hospital, and actually you won't like either!
