Isn't it quite possible that jewels are auctioned off in one instance but may be retrieved via private connoisseurs by family members as a ways to counter high inheritance taxes? I am sure we have touched on several items reacquired by QM for the royal collection such as the Indian tiara' and possibly by HM QE2 from her sister's PM's estate. I have read that the PoW wanted to get his first wife jewels from his late Aunt the DoW and he has purportedly done the same for his present wife from her late great grandmother Alice Frederica Keppel past jewels.
Regards,
Dave.

I am afraid you are right Beth. The Rosse jewels were sold at Christie’s separately in 1980s. The tiara was sold a few years after the death of the earl of Rosse who died in 1979. The necklace was sold a few years later. If you check the credits of the photographs of these jewels in Diana Scarisbrick book in which they are reproduced, both credits are Christie’s.
