The necklace/tiara is a bit of a puzzle. Obviously it had some significance as Princess Alice wore it for her wedding day. Whenever I have seen it, I have had the feeling that it was originally designed as a necklace. I have also wondered if, perhaps at some stage, the jewel was broken up and the diamonds used for something like the meander tiara now worn by the Princess Royal? I don't think that tiara was seen on Princess Alice in photos of her as a young married woman. I have always assumed that it was a later addition to her collection and, as neither she or Prince Andrew had any significant money, the diamonds would have probably come from another jewel.
The last photo, showing a tiara which is new to us, is a tremendous find.
I have the feeling that there are 3 pendant black pearls in the centre, but there may be other stones.
What do others think?
