Some wonderful research done there Beth. In the 1920s-30s it looks like these sales of big "bling" jewels were a social outing for women who got get to them. Similar scenes of woman crowding the sale room to get a glimpse of former royal jewels were reported on in the sale of the Russian Crown Jewels in 1927.
