However, arguably even more fascinating are the jewels that have passed through the Swedish royal house into other royal houses i.e. were never part of the Foundation.
The Danish Pearl Tiara (worn by Queen Margrethe II) and Ruby parure (worn by Crown Princess Mary) and the splendid Queen Josephine Tiara (worn by Queen Sonja) all were part of the Swedish collection and went to Denmark in 1869 with Princess Lovise of Sweden, along with a truly stunning Pink Topaz parure that is now in the Albion museum in Japan.
A generation later the superb Bernadotte emerald parure now worn by Queen Sonja also left the main line, although fortunately it found itself in Norway a further generation later.
I'd like to know when the Bernadotte Foundation was established, what the motivation behind it was (regret at losing such grand items) and who determined what should and should not be in it.
I'd also like to know if successive Swedish queens have added pieces or is it now to hold only historical pieces?
Does anyone know?
