regarding Rachel Bowes Lyon.
While Rachel was from a very wealthy family, it is important to note that the Countess of Strathmore and Lady Elphinstone, the Queen's mother and sister both borrowed tiaras from the Queen, so it is not inconceivable that Rachel would have also borrowed one, albeit it is not one associated with the Royal Family! Thought I should just highlight this.
I tried to google Rachel's mother and daughter (who became the Countess of Stair) to see if either of them wore this tiara but couldn't find anything.
I must say I find it pretty remarkable that the Countess of Strathmore did not have a tiara of her own to wear at her daughter's coronation.
While by 1937 the British aristocracy was in a very awkward position, the war tipped it over the edge, I still find it odd that someone like the Countess of Strathmore, wife of one of Scotland's wealthiest landowners wouldn't have had a diadem of her own.
