I came across this YouTube video, in Italian, of the Queen’s visit to the Vatican in 1980. It looks to be Italian newsreel footage snippets. The sequence of events is not in order.

At the end there is also some footage of HM’s earlier visit to the Vatican to meet Pope John XXIII.

There are some quick images of HM’s retinue when they receive small gifts from HH John Paul II.

There are some good images of HM’s Ladies in Waiting – of which there seems to be at least two.

I am pretty sure that one is the Duchess of Grafton, but I am not too sure about the other one.

These two are wearing jewelled tiaras. There is a third lady who is wearing a black mantilla style headpiece. I think she might be the wife of the British Ambassador.

It is quite interesting – a different perspective than we are used to seeing.

This is also two of the few occasions, outside of Garter Day, that HM has worn her formal Garter strap on her arm.
