As far as I'm aware Diana only ever wore 2 tiaras in public (and owned no unworn ones), the Lover's Knot tiara that passed back to QEII after Diana's death (Hugh Robert's book), and the Spencer flower tiara that was only ever a loan went back to Earl Spencer, so it makes sense that they were thinking of asking to borrow this tiara that Diana wore for her wedding.
