What Green Tiara?
Posted by Dave on January 7, 2023, 6:40 am
Prince Harry's book the Spear has been outted before its 10th January date, and in that book, Harry has claimed that his late Grandmother Queen Elizabeth had begged his wife to select one of her tiaras from her private collection instead of one from the late PDPoW. This leak speaks to 5 tiaras being put on show for selection and the one selected was an all emerald tiara selected by Meghan.
Thereafter it is reported that the Queen's dresser frustrated the process which resulted in Meghan having to choose the all diamond bandeau she wore for her wedding. So I don't think this part of the story is not authentic.
What do others think.

Dave.

I've just read the articles and they don't seem to add any clarity to the issue. It seems odd to offer a selection of 5 tiaras to choose from and then decide the one that's selected is not suitable! This book doesn't say which one was initially selected, so doesn't really clarify even if it was the emerald one as previously reported, or the reason it was subsequently rejected.
But could it have been the Greville emerald tiara? The way they made it sound was as if it was an all emerald tiara which in it must be a never before seen one. I wonder what the aquamarine tiara in the selection looked like? Was it the one loaned to the Princess Royal by the late QEQM or is it the one from Prince Phillip's mother or maybe the one the Queen loaned to the Countess of Wessex, the one the Queen wore a few times I think in the 70/80's. So they were five tiaras, an all emerald one, an aquamarine one, the diamond bandeau Meghan eventually wore and I wonder what the other 2 tiaras were.

Dave.

The article said the Queen begged them to wear a tiara from her collection instead of one from Princess Diana's own. My question, did Princess Diana jewels loaned by the Queen not returned to the Queen after PD's death or did PD have some personal jewels of her own that are now between the two sons or was there the jewels referred to as Diana's collection from her paternal family? Did Earl Spencer offer Meghan a tiara from his collection? I hope their is some clarity to this juggernaut.

As far as I'm aware Diana only ever wore 2 tiaras in public (and owned no unworn ones), the Lover's Knot tiara that passed back to QEII after Diana's death (Hugh Robert's book), and the Spencer flower tiara that was only ever a loan went back to Earl Spencer, so it makes sense that they were thinking of asking to borrow this tiara that Diana wore for her wedding.
If it was the emerald tiara that was initially picked then it can't be the Greville one as Eugenie wore it the following year and it's not of Russian / unknown origin.
I think QEQM gave Princess Anne the aquamarine pinecone tiara as wedding present, so it's not going to be that one. More likely the one lent to the Countess of Wessex.
Well then, their must be an unknown and if i go by reports (outstanding emerald tiara) in the collection of the late Queen not known by most. If prince Harry did not confirm it via this expose' I would have continued to doubt the rumors. The upcoming coronation may well reveal some unknown jewel mysteries.

Dave.

I have a copy of Harry’s book. He said that initially his aunts offered the Spencer tiara and that Meghan planned her dress and the scallops on her veil for it. Then, closer to the wedding they got an invitation by the Queen to come to the Palace and try some on.
That meeting, in the Queen’s private dressing room, included a jewelry expert (“an eminent historian who knew the lineage of each stone in the royal collection”) plus Angela Kelly and the Queen. Five tiaras. One all emeralds, one aquamarine plus three more not described. They all agreed on one which stood out. The Queen told Meghan to practice putting it in before the big day with a hairdresser as it was tricky. When Harry and Meghan later tried to contact Angela Kelly, she ignored them. Eventually told them they’d need an orderly and police escort to take it from the Palace, but was too busy to arrange it. He thought about going to the Queen, but didn’t want a confrontation and wasn’t sure who the Queen would side with. Harry finally got it from Angela Kelly after she had him sign a release and then they some had words.
My thoughts. Did the Palace just assume Harry knew the Queen would lend him one and never bothered to bring it up earlier? Disorganized? Think Meghan wouldn’t wear one? Or did they find out about the Spencer tiara and not like the optics?
As for the tiaras, I assume the emerald one was the Greville. I doubt the Palace’s jewelry expert (Hugh Roberts?) would have allowed a tiara with questionable lineage to be shown. Agree that the aquamarine was probably Sophie’s. The one Meghan selected seems most like the Spencer tiara in shape and scale.
But if it were the Greville emerald tiara, then Harry would have seized on the fact that same was later worn by his cousin Princess Eugenie and make out that his wife was overlooked and or shunned/ discriminated against because of her biracial status. So no, it an unknown emerald tiara not familiar or known to most. Truly interesting.

Your comment sounds deranged. Why would Harry care or even remember that a tiara they didn’t select was worn by Eugenie? Eugenie and Jack were friends with Harry and Meghan before and after both their weddings, so there is no bad blood there.

For what my opinion is worth, I think that Paisley25 is correct & that it was the Greville emerald tiara referred to.
In the book Prince Harry does not suggest in anyway that his wife wasn't given her tiara of choice. I strongly suspect that, the story the Duchess was refused the use of an emerald tiara, was a media invention.
What Prince Harry was complaining about was that Angela Kelly didn't provide access to the chosen tiara immediately when it was requested so that the hairdresser could practice placing it.
