The Paspaley pearl takes its name from the firm of Paspaley which has pearl farms off the coast of northern Australia. They produce and market some of the best Australian South Sea pearls. Today only a very few pearls found are natural pearls, although at one time significant quantities of natural pearls were harvested from the northern waters of Australia. The shells from this extensive harvesting were used in making mother of pearl items of various descriptions.
The Paspaley Pearl is a spherical cultured pearl of outstanding beauty; its colour, orient and lustre being part of its appeal. Below are some links to articles about this famous pearl.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to appreciate the colour of South Sea pearls and the various overtones from photos. Hopefully most will have seen such pearls or have the opportunity to do so soon. Pink overtones, as in The Paspaley Pearl, are the most prized.
A video showing The Paspaley Pearl. In some of the scenes the wonderful pink orient can be seen to advantage.
