The Dudley pearl is superb! Thank you Thomas. It reminds me of the Yussoupov (La Pelegrina) pearl although the shape of the two is different.
I know that Lady Dudley had some interesting jewels, which I hope to do a thread on at some time. I have never understood why the Dudley pearl was sold when it was -- more research is needed.
I wonder if Lady Dudley wore the pearl on the centre of her forehead at the Devonshire House ball? (I am not at all sure as I don't have a good eye)
Detail.
And also as a pendant to her pearl choker in the photo below?

Many thanks Beth and Dave for this interesting thread. The videos were especially entertaining (interestingly some of the Dior pieces shown in one of the videos (designed by V. de Castellane) are on display for three days in Paris at the Musée d'Art Moderne).
My contribution is the Dudley Pearl, a natural drop -shaped pearl, weighing 209 grains. Françoise Cailles writes the nacreous surface of the pearl is so deep it looks like varnish, or laquer. It is reportedly almost perfect, both for its shape and exceptionnal pink colour. It was acquired by Lord Dudley for his Countess, sold in 1902, and resurfaced three decades ago.
