Dear Dave, Queen Elizabeth II was given sapphires from the Emperor of Japan (Theirs is the Kingdom - Andrew Morton). However, I do not know if it is a brooch, a necklace, earrings.... Best regards, Franck
Previous Message I seem to recollect a discussion on the RJWMB about a necklace with a large sapphire having been given to QEQM as a coronation present. That turned out to be a mistake due to an incorrect attribution to a photo in a Pinterest site. As far as I know King George's coronation present to QEQM was a diamond collet necklace which can be seen in some of the coronation photographs. It was the longer of the two. It has now been lent to the Duchess of Cornwall by QEII. I have never seen anything about the carat weight of the large sapphire which Princess Diana used as the centre piece of her pearl choker. A lot would depend on whether it is a shallow or deep stone, I suspect. Previous Message While on the subject of the sapphire Bismarck, I wondered if the gift of the large sapphire to the late PD PoW from the late QEQM could have been the reported gift to the late QEQM by her husband on their coronation day? I read somewhere that the QEQM was gifted a large sapphire either by her husband or the Emperor of Japan. I can't recall if I may have seen it on another jewel board, but I also read HM QE may have also been gifted by the Emperor of Japan a massive sapphire as well. Could anyone on here say what is the true carrot weight of the sapphire worn by the late PD PoW? And maybe able to indicate it's provenance i.e. whether it was the said sapphire gifted to the late QEQM by her husband? Is it possible it came from the Greville bequest? Regards, Dave.
