Many thanks LauraM. I didn't think to check in Munn!

The question is how was the Sancy set in the original tiara? Nancy Astor was presented at Court not long after her wedding and her diamonds were noted by the press. It seems likely that the tiara with the Sancy might have been worn. Unfortunately I cannot find a photo of her wearing a tiara from that era.

    From Munn Tiaras page 330

“A circlet in eighteenth-century French taste in the form of graduated leaves, buds and roses. It was probably made by Cartier and was adapted by Cartier’s outworker Lavabre in 1913 to receive the famous Sancy diamond. In this archive photograph the aperture for the stone can be clearly seen. Since the stone had once been worn by the tragic Queen Marie-Antoinette the style of the tiara was appropriate to the historic provenance of this remarkable diamond.” (CARTIER ARCHIVES, PARIS)
