" I agree with LauraM, because the Dinner took place in Montreal (after which the couple were filmed on the balcony) and the train picture was taken while they were departing for Ottawa (according to the RC)! I do wonder which other Tiaras the Queen took with her on the monumental Tour, which included a lot of Banquets, probably more than one in every province I believe, with additional ones on the visit to the US! She wore the Oriental Circlet at the State Opening of Parliament! And Queen Mary's Fringe for a Dinner at the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City, hosted by the Provincial Government!

I don't think that the dress QEQM wore as seen in the banquet photos is the same as the one seen in the train photo. The dress in the banquet photo below has an off the shoulder designed bodice and a transparent cape/frill along the neckline. From what little that can be seen below the waist the dress looks to have a full skirt. The type of neckline seen above would not suit a slim sheath style skirt as seen in the train photo. If one of the occasions was the dinner at Chateau Laurier a video from British Pathe of the visit to Montreal shows the King and Queen waving to the crowd from the terrace of Windsor Hotel in Montreal. And the Queen is wearing the Teck Crescent tiara: The still photo showing the name of the hotel: And here a photo with a better view of Their Majesties: Unfortunately it's not possible to see the dress, so I do not know if this is in fact a video from one of the occasions already mentioned by Beth / LauraM or if this is in fact a third outing of the Teck Crescent tiara. The Windsor Hotel in Montreal site supplies another piece of information. https://lewindsormontreal.com/en/about-us Under the section for "1939-1951 Memorable Visits" it says that the King and Queen were at a state banquet at the hotel on 18 May 1939. Some enthusiasts have been compiling a time line of the royal couples use of the train which took them over Canada in 1951. It too shows that there was a dinner (but it does not say a state banquet) in Montreal on the evening of 18 May. http://www.themetrains.com/royal-train-timeline.htm It then shows another banquet in Ottawa on 19 May. I am assuming that this was the one where the King and Queen were photographed at a dinner table. With all her wit and charm, style was not a particular strength of Queen Elizabeth, and from all her hideous evening gowns this was one of the ghastliest.

How often did she wear the Teck crescent tiara in Canada? " Today I found another photo of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother wearing the Teck crescents and roses tiara. It was published in the press in 1939, and while it mentions that the lady curtsying to her was Lady Bessborough, wife of the former Governor-General of Canada, I think that this photo was taken in London at the Guildhall in late March or early April 1939. There is nothing in the press report where this photo was published to show when the photo was taken and so my thinking is based on the Queen's gown. It seems to me that it is the same as in the photos from the Guildhall occasion in 1939. QEQM at the Guildhall in 1939. If it is not the same occasion then the Queen is wearing the same gown -- another of those which were not memorable for great style. Edit: Other photos from the same evening at the Guildhall

Photo I originally posted. The photo was not taken at the Guildhall as I initially assumed, but at the Savoy Theatre in March 1939. So this is the 5th identified wearing of the tiara. Details. Hugh Roberts in The Queen's Diamonds notes that a new frame was made for the tiara in 1937, so I think that, in time, we will find that QEQM wore the tiara much more frequently than previously thought. Roberts said it was perhaps worn only once; we now have 5 separate occasions identified.
