Both she and her mother in law were said to have magnificent rubies. The photo appears to have been taken prior to her husband's appointment as Viceroy of Ireland in 1915. It was published in society magazines in 1917. I suspect that the principal stones in the tiara and necklace are the rubies. In later years Alice, Lady Wimborne commissioned a very modern ruby and diamond tiara by Chaumet.

Lady Wimborne" Both Alice, Lady Wimborne and her mother-in-law, Cornelia, Lady Wimborne were photographed wearing some striking pearls. Cornelia Alice I initially wondered if Cornelia had passed on her pearls to her daughter-in-law, who had them restrung. Then I read this report of Cornelia, Lady Wimborne's will (1927) and discovered that she had bequeathed them to her son. So obviously both ladies owned significant pearls.

The pearls look really large, it seems that they are families with hidden master pieces as the drop pearl looks extremely large. I know we have discussed on here before who was in possession of some of the most extraordinary and grandest/ largest pearls but is it possible they are pearls and other jewels out there privately owned and maybe in some royal vaults that would outrank some of the ones thought to be at the top of the pile.
