Jewels worn at Gala Performance at Covent Garden, 1939 Posted by Franck on March 24, 2021, 6:46 pm Dear all, The royal Watcher has written a very interesting article about the gala performance at Covent Garden in 1939. The jewels worn by the British royal family were incredibles ! https://royalwatcherblog.com/2019/03/23/gala-performance-at-covent-garden-1939/ Queen Mary wore 8 collet necklaces including the teck collet necklace ! Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother also wore incredible jewels including the ruby parure with 2 ruby brooches ! I also think that she wore other jewels such as the cockade brooch on the rear of her gown. What do you think ? I also think that she wore "l'ordre de la Jarretière". No photo at this moment. The Queen was in fact wearing the Order of the Legion of Honour. I agree with Franck that Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother wore the central portion of the cockade brooch to secure the sash at the back of her gown. I posted the images below and the video on the RJWMB in 2017 but those posts have now been lost. In particular one of the images shows a partial view of the brooch more clearly. It would be interesting to find out how often QEQM wore the brooch in this fashion. closer view Here we can see the 2 ruby brooches mentioned by Franck, and that QEQM also wore Queen Victoria's 10 diamond bar brooch to secure her sash at her shoulder. Mme Lebrun was also wearing an interesting tiara. I'll let others describe it and the royal who later wore it.
