A little bit high for my taste but as a wedding Tiara it’s actually quite nice

Flora Ogilvy (the granddaughter of Princess Alexandra of Kent) is wearing the Ogilvy Tiara and Princess Alexandra’ Pearl Earrings at her Wedding to Timothy Vesterberg at St James's Church in Piccadilly today , following a Civil Ceremony in the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace last September!

The photographer has treated us to some wonderful views of this tiara.

Re-claiming my research

I have seen that the usual suspects have again appropriated my research to incorporate the following

into their claims to have undertaken research into the origins of the tiara.

I am not persuaded by the old saying that "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"

Versatility of the tiara

At times it is very difficult to say whether Princess Alexandra was wearing the last 2 elements as her hair style did obscure that portion of the tiara.

Whether all the floral elements are detachable is a moot point. I don't think we have seen the elements worn separately as hair jewels since the tiara was made in its present form, but clearly the last element on either side can be removed.

In the comparison photo below it is possible to see from the photo of Princess Alexandra where the final element detaches.

What I find significant from the photos of Flora Ogilvy is that it is obvious that the entire final element has been removed, not just the flower section. Perhaps the flowers themselves can be individually removed -- I don't know.

Nor am I sure just what Ursula believes can be detached. All of each individual element or just the flowers?

Princess Alexandra's tiara is incredibly versatile.

As we all know, the flower elements can hold pearls, turquoises or sapphires, allowing the tiara to be used with a variety of colours and other jewels.

In her latest item on the tiara Ursula states that all the flower elements are detachable to be used as hair jewels.

See Royal Magazin https://royal-magazin.de/england/kent/kent-princess-alexandra-ogilvy-diamond-flower-tiara-wedding-flora-alexandra-ogilvy.htm

When a follower of British Royal Jewels on Instagram mentioned that two flower elements could be removed, the site owner demurred, stating his belief that the elements were obscured by Princess Alexandra's hair.

Yet, the photos of Flora Ogilvy show very clearly that the the last flower element on either side of the tiara have been removed.

I haven't had time to hunt for the photograph Maria Olivia referred to, but could it be a version of this photograph, Maria Olivia?

Alamy dates it as 1956.

I think that the photograph was probably taken in 1960.

My reasons for thinking this are

A. Princess Alexandra did her hair in this style in 1960.

B. The dress was worn by the Princess throughout 1960 -- for example at a charity ball in London in 1960.

I think that the first photo above gives a mistaken impression and that the band holds the seven large flowers with the last one being almost obscured by the Princess' hair.

The photo below, taken in 1960, also gives the impression that the band contained only 5 flowers.

Yet, a photograph taken a day or two later on the same official trip shows that the band had the 7 large flowers.

If none of these photos shows the image you were referring to Maria Olivia, could you give us a link, please. If we can find an image with a verifiable date earlier than 1959-60 that would change our understanding of the history of the tiara.

Yes Beth It is the first and third picture but the tiara has 5 flowers. Thank you for sharing pictures of Princess Alexandra before her Wedding.
