King Edward V11 and his rumored acquired tiaras from Cartier Posted by Dave on February 13, 2023, 3:34 am I recently came across some information on the internet which says that the late King Edward V11 ordered from Cartier a total of 27 tiaras for his coronation. Could we find evidence of this from the Cartier archives? And if this is fact, is it that those 27 tiaras may have been gifts to specially invited guests and or relatives? There is evidence of gifts being given at coronations by the king. It is said that the late QEQM received from her King a diamond necklace at their coronation of large collier diamond stones. I have heard about King Edward V11 acquiring lots of jewels from Cartier and he was known to have called Cartier the jeweller of Kings. Now that we have another upcoming coronation, one wonders how many Cartier peices will indeed come out of the vaults. Regards, Dave.

There is nothing in Hans Naddelhoffer's history of Cartier, or any other history of Cartier that I have seen, about the King buying numerous tiaras, much less 27! There are several biographies of Edward VII but I don't think any have even hinted at that number of purchases. Edward VII & Queen Alexandra were clients of Cartier. I think that most of their major purchases have been identified by now. So often people write things or make videos without trying to check the facts. If tiaras are worn by ladies at the forthcoming coronation, I have no doubt some will have been made by Cartier, but was the person who purchased them Edward VII?? I would like to see some verifiable evidence.

I wasn't doubting your word. I was questioning whether there is any evidence to support the claim that Edward VII purchased 27 tiaras. So, the video does say that Edward VII purchased 27 tiaras. But where is the evidence to support that statement? I find it interesting that a photo of the Halo tiara was used. That tiara was not purchased until 1936.

And I'm sure gifts are given by the monarch on his crowning/ coronation day to his nearest and dearest. Maybe he gifted the ladies who attended to his Queen Cartier peices and his female relatives along with his Queen was in receipt of peices from said Cartier too. Isn't it reported that Queen Alexandra had not one but 2 grand diamond necklaces from Cartier only seen in paintings and mostly gifts from said King Edward VII. I don't know nor do I have other evidence but I'm sure this is not the first time I heard about this particular king collecting jewels on mass from Cartier. Regards, Dave. They were ordered by individual customers, but for the same occasion.
