Queen Camilla Leek Brooch Closeup Posted by Crowne on July 12, 2024, 1:38 am No surprise that on a visit to the Welsh Senedd Camilla wore a brooch with a Welsh connection. A nice closeup of one of the leek / Welsh Guards brooches, looks like a smaller one that she wore when Duchess of Cornwall, definitely not the larger one that QEII wore as that had a kink the the right hand leaf.

Welsh Leek Brooches have been worn by (at least), QEII, Queen Camilla, Princess Diana and Catherine, The (current) Princess of Wales. It seems that they are all different - with the possible exception of Diana's and Catherine's. It is harder to tell with these two - they may be the same. I think that maybe the Welsh Guard would present Catherine with a new one - but I can also see William sentimentally wanting Catherine to wear his mother's. Does anyone have any insight? There are more obvious differences between QEII's and QC's.

Queen Camilla Leek Brooch from Queen Alexandra Posted by Laurent F on July 12, 2024, 5:44 pm, in reply to "Re: Queen Camilla Leek Brooch Closeup" This brooch features a Welsh Leek in emeralds surrounded by a frame of diamonds and emeralds, with "to our own Princess" written in Welsh, all with a cabochon emerald pendant and was a wedding gift from the ladies of north Wales to princess Alexandra of Denmark when she married the future Edward VII in 1863. It seems it was given to the then Queen Elizabeth (QEQM) in 1937 and after her death in 2002 inherited by Queen Elizabeth II. Previous Message Thanks for posting that great close-up Crowne. I think that this brooch would have looked better with the Queen's ensemble at the Welsh Parliament. But, that said, I am sure she would rather wear something given to her specifically as opposed to a family heirloom.

Some images of the various Leek brooches Posted by Beth on July 15, 2024, 8:30 pm, in reply to "Re: Queen Camilla Leek Brooch from Queen Alexandra" Crowne's post & Bryce's comments prompted me to do a bit of searching, & purchase some images so that we could enjoy high definition images. As Bryce pointed out the Leek brooches belonging to QEII & Queen Camilla are different. I know that the Welsh Guards gave a leek badge/brooch to QEII. At the time of her accession, the Queen became Colonel-in-Chief of the Welsh Guards & remained so until her demise. Prince Charles became the Royal Colonel during the 1970s. Now that King Charles is the Colonel-in-Chief, Prince William is the Royal Colonel. So far, I have not identified who gave Princess Diana & Queen Camilla their brooches. Whether the brooch worn by The Princess of Wales originally belonged to Princess Diana is an intriguing point. I don't know. But I have found some photos & hope that others will venture an opinion. (Finding high definition photos of Princess Diana's brooch was a nightmare!) I hope that everyone will join in & give their opinions.

QEII's has a distinctive bend on the right prong and Queen Camilla's has a gold root ball. So these two are definitely unique. The more I look at them, the more I think that the brooch used by Diana and Catherine are the same. They seem to have all the same shapes and "twists" to the prongs. All just speculation - but they look the same to me.
