Bill B, you obviously don't live here or you would know the story of the greedy taxi drivers and all their shenanigans. (Currently they charge $50 more for trips to Melaque than return trips by Melaque taxistas.) 80 pesos is $4.00 USD, so apparently it is a reasonable amount to go three blocks NOB, but it is outrageous to someone who has lived in Mexico for 23 years on a Mexican budget. Of course, I walked home, although it wasn't easy to carry lots of groceries in the heat of the day.
