Debit card on US bank

We are unable to use our debit cards from two banks in the USA. Anyone have know the reason? I’m thinking it’s a response to Trump’s tariffs.

Did you call your banks and let them know so they can check any issues.

Thanks for the suggestion. My wife asked the woman in La Huerta here about our problem. She looked at our card and replied, “No American”.

Our Mexican charge machines only take VISA or MASTERCARD for sure some will take American Express . But you should be available to pay in Restaurants and some groceries stores like the one by the church. Only the ATM in the Delegación will take Foreign cards, if is working if not Melaque has a few ATMs; Militar base, BBVA, Citibanamex and INTERCAM. Good luck. Aby

Thank you, Aby, I appreciate your interest but … the mystery remains. Our cards are VISA and have worked in both cash machines here in La Manzanilla until a couple of days ago, roughly coinciding with the imposition of tariffs by the US president. A coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. We followed a couple at the Delegacion, they with a card on a Canadian bank, and their card was accepted and the cash flowed.

We used our U.S. credit union debit card yesterday at Banamex in Melaque without any problem. There was a period of a few days last summer when the same card would not work at Banamex but would at Intercam.

I honestly don't think your problem is related to the (temporarily suspended) U.S. tariff, but the capriciousness of our local god of the ATMS...

My credit union visa did not work at La Manz all week but worked fine in Melaque today. Capricious the right word. I did learn that my credit union had $600 per day limit.
