If you're looking at any travel sport for strictly the plus or minus financial impact, more times than not, you will end up in the red.
As for being a Bandit, this is an estimate but if you played for the Bandits from 10U - 18U, played all the tournaments, I would guess you spend around $120,000, this not include private lessons. The average Bandit receives about $160,000 in scholarship dollars. That amount includes financial aid and academic aid, so it's impossible to know if these families would of been better off just focusing on academics.
You also can't put a price on family fun and bonding. You also shouldn't ignore the studies that have consistently shown that children involved with sports are better students, less likely to drop out of school, less likely to become pregnant and have less mental wellness issues.
Every player and family is different and I don't believe there is a correct path for everyone nor should you or I try to push families one way or the other. I do believe everyone should make educated decisions as to what is best for their family.
