Weak conference, weak schedule = loss when it matters.

All those fundraisers they do should = tougher out of conf and out of state games. Spring break trip and top out of state RRs that they can put on or join.

But the school/coaches love’s going 30 something and 1. And the 1 is the big 1 that matters the most.

Lake Central has a very talented team that plays against Marist, Penn and Crown Point twice. They have talent up and down the line up and have a very good assistant coach. No one knew Penn was going to have an off game or season when the schedule was made.
Marist and Lake Central should be a great game and both teams should be favorites to win State. As good as both teams are, the smart money would be on the field but both teams have as good of chance as any of winning another State Championship

Chinks in the armor starting to show.

Between the senior pitcher quitting, the illegal pitches finally being called this weekend, and that knucklehead dad yelling at his kid from the stands, it’s just the start. It’ll be interesting to see if they can keep it afloat. Should be fun to watch.

The problem at LC is the coaches benching their returning all-conference players during conference games, to play bench players. It just screams incompetence. It has created an environment of distrust between the coaching staff and the players. At a school that has been historically filled with drama the coaches chose to add more. Why?

I'm going to go on a limb and guess the person talking has a daughter who typically starts. But lets be clear, my daughter is just as competent even if she isn't a "starter" or else she wouldn't even had made this talented team. Would love to hear you say this in person to us who have "benched" daughters. The coaches and players arent the problem, it's SOME parents like you. Dont lump all of us together with you not liking the HC because I can see the LOGIC the HC uses to make game decisions. It's a TEAM, if you wanted her to act like she's playing an individual sport, you should have put her in one.

The fact that you are calling players “ bench players” shows your ignorance. Let me tell you how this works. There’s coaches and there’s players. It’s called a team. A team is a group of people whose goal is a common one. The returning players, regardless of how good they are cannot win a game by themselves. If one of your all conference players gets hurt game 1 of state, does it make sense to have to put in a player that sat the bench all season? It doesn’t make sense to you to allow players to get more playing time in the weaker matchups? Or are you a parent whose only interest is how much playing time your all conference daughter gets? College coaches don’t care about how many minutes players played or how many games…. They care about what they did in the time she did play . A great player only needs 1 inning, 1 game. Obviously the coach sees ALL the players as important.

Yes, ALL of the players are important. And, a team needs all of it's players. But, let's be realistic. There are starters and non-starters, or bench players. There are roles for everyone on the team. Should all players get equal amount of everything? This is high school, not little league, where you are required to play everyone evenly. You don't have to be equal in playing time.

If LC was in a different conference, we probably would not be having this conversation. Typically you would start starters and put in remaining players when winning by a comfortable margin BUT the teams in this conference with the exception of 1 or 2 are really not even practice for this caliber of team. The starters are driving scores impressively high but it causes issues for non starters not getting any time. IT IS IMPERATIVE TO PLAY YOUR NON STARTERS AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. Especially when you are only 13-14 deep.
Your correct the coach has no requirements as to how much ANY PLAYER plays because it’s not little league. And your correct… not everyone needs even playing time so are you just mad because your princess is not getting on the stage enough?

A softball parent myself, the problem with LC softball is the parents . The way they speak about the coach, players and each other is overwhelming and disrespectful. My granddaughter could only dream to be on a team with that much talent. Any coach that gives their time deserves respect. The coaches job is to win, not cater to parents and prima donna players. Players have bad days and it’s the coaches job to recognize what’s best for the TEAM.
As a parent it is our job to encourage players to be good sports, to do their best and be them for them on the good days and bad days. You do a disservice to your child being disrespectful to coaches, umps and other parents. You teach your child to be entitled and that is what creates bad culture. The LC Headcoach has been a fixture in NWI Softball for 35 years playing, teaching and coaching. She was the one of the most dynamic players around. We played against her in travel and high school . She was always respectful and a great sport. Any school would be lucky to have her head up their program. Sounds like a lot of salty people to me. Good luck LC great talent, great coach….

Been a fixture for 35 years? the head coach is barely 40 years old. So unless she was playing at 4 and was a dynamic player in diapers, that makes zero sense right off the bat.

There is great talent across the board at LC---all of the players deserve an opportunity to perform. But, that doesn't mean that every player should get EQUAL time.

Yvette Tovar has been playing in Schereville town since she was 5. She was always fun to watch. More advanced in game knowledge than you would expect a young kid to be but I believe her uncle was a MLB hopeful out of LC and she had a family member that played for Chicago Cubs. She had some really great coaches…and played all over the United States. She was invited to play in Europe. Our daughter decided softball wasn’t for her but we always kept up with Brooke Baker and the Teams from that time. I heard about this from another softball friend and decided to give my 2 cents. Yvette was always pretty shy and modest but always gave 200% no matter where she played. As a switch hitter she was one of the few in this area ant the time who also switch slapped and bunted. Always subbed for teams when asked…. Just a well rounded person and player. I know Rick Baker has been a mentor to her since she was young so it’s no surprise she is coaching LC. So now you know.

Your post sounds like you think Brooke Baker is still the coach at LC? She is not, Brooke resigned after one season because of family and LC parent issues.

That's an option most of the LC parents would be interested in. The LC HC heading up another program.

"A 35 year fixture" should know the DP/Flex, and re-entry rules. Nice try.

Talk to the players before you come on here and give us a lecture. Also, talk to the JV players who want to stay down on JV instead of coming up to varsity to play for her.

Show me another program (softball, baseball, etc) that sits their all conference starters during conference games. You know, for the coaches who vote for all conference players. She's manipulating who she wants to win all conference. Such a wonderful person.

It’s seriously childish and straight up bullying what you parents are doing. You’re not here for the team and it’s embarrassing. Not all of us … feel this way about Coach Tovar. We are also not on the Porter train and feel he flames the fire and does nothing to back the head coach because he so obsessed with being HC.

There are a few parents that are the bullies. You do not speak for the team or JV team. Quit inciting problems. We … the parents who want our daughters to have a good experience and see who the problem is are tired of being lumped in with with the problem few. Let the coach coach and quit making us all look stupid

No other high school has the same level of talent that LC does. The HC is handed an entire team of D1 commits and doesn’t know how to coach them. She thinks it’s her coaching but it’s the players, their history, their work ethic and there background that gets the job done. Last season they couldn’t get it done and they won’t get it done this season due to the HC mindset and micromanaging. These players are in it for the love of the game and to enjoy their time with friends, not to deal with unnecessary stress. Dismissing assistant coaches and letting her role get to her head isn’t helping anyone. The morale of the team is suffering, and that’s just not fair to these kids who deserve a positive experience. Parents and coaches need to get it together before they ruin it for the girls.

I am a former college coach…..long retired I still keep up with teams, players and people I’ve met along the way. I’m disturbed by the way a lot of parents act… not just a this particular school. I read this thread because I am familiar with Yvette Tovar. I feel she was a great choice for Lake Central. I cannot imagine the frustration with having to cater to parents that are way too involved and opinionated . I guarantee you… any parent that thinks this type of behavior will fly with a college coach is going to very surprised.

Yes you need to have great skills but we also look at attitude, work ethic and any problems will also be considered….people love to talk so we usually know EVERYTHING.
There have been great players that have been D1 material but never get an offer or released because of interference from parents.
Micromanaging?!?!? After reading the entire LC thread, I am going to agree with some of the posters, I think LC has a case of some unsatisfied parents and apparently a part of the assistant coaching team causing problems. To the other parents that choose to not get involved… congratulations!!! You are making this experience meaningful…. The harsh truth is this may be the last time your child plays this beloved game.
This team has everything to make state ….. this stuff is causing the problems. Let the coach coach and players play …..
