As the pair walked, the Hallowess couldn't keep the encounter with Nadia to herself. The Albino girl truly looked like she had seen hell, and she carried children. He approved of the speaking, so she continued. She just needed refuge for herself and her children - Somewhere safe. The Hallowess could not turn away such a sad soul, one who nearly cried at the acceptance of her into the lands. As she told her King, she waited for his response and hoping he would not be angry with her. She was unranked, and overall inexperienced with how packs went. Her parents had not bore her and her siblings in a pack, so her only knowledge was here. Where she had taken herself. She was happy here, even if it meant she didn't get to be with her siblings. Rumor had it her oldest sister struck down the Nightingale Alphess, and her oldest brother now held the throne in Nightingale. It made her happy to know she had more family after seeing those she knew die before her.
Her audits flicked to her King as he spoke to her in a reply of the situation with Nadia. “Esmae, you’ve done good. Of course she is welcome. You’re one-hundred percent sure she’s no longer affiliated with Tarben, correct? If she had some scheme - it could cause danger in the future. I dont’-” Her bright orange pumpkins flicked to meet his gaze. “What am I thinking. She wouldn’t still be. Tarben wouldn’t be that stupid. Thank you for doing that on my behalf. We’ll make sure she’s protected here.” Her expression of seriousness lightened at his kindness. She gave a gentle bow of her head, a smile pulling at her lips as he looked at her. She felt a sudden quickening of her heart. "Thank you, my King." She said softly.
“There is one thing I’d like to speak to you about. Regarding the recent war..” Her head tilted to the side, curious as to the nervousness in his voice. She waited in a moment of silence for him to continue. “Esmae. I know I called you up to the front lines with my sons and their wives. I know.. That must’ve been scary. And I sincerely apologize for that. If you’d have gotten hurt.. Or killed.. I..” As he came to a stop, she did as well. For a moment her eyes wavered away from him, but returned back to him quickly at the flickering remembrance of her mother and fathers screams, of her brothers. “I truly wouldn’t have been able to forgive myself. If I - Dawnshire - would have lost you, I would have taken full responsibility. I’m glad you made it through safe.”
She felt her heart speed up again at the sound of his words, how he stumbled on how he would feel if she had been hurt or worse. She felt her cheeks turn warm, a small smile lit her face again. "You honor me." She said softly. "Truth be told, I was terrified. But I could not ask for anything else, Dawnshire is my home. I would live and die for my home." She spoke to him, her eyes wandered to her paws for a moment. "I have never known war, or fighting. There was a lot I wish I did not see," She started, her pumpkins looking back up to meet his suns. They were like her light in the darkness. A single tear shed from her eyes - She had thought she'd cried every emotion out of herself from that day. "My mother, father and brother were all slain in front of me. Irina, who was Queen of Nightingale took my mother and brothers lives, and her Delta Belladonna took my fathers. In return, my eldest sister Hecate struck down Irina, and my eldest brother now holds the throne of Nightingale."
She gave a soft sigh, a smile suddenly turning up on her face. "I didn't know I had more family until I saw them on the battlefield. So with a tragedy, I found hope still the same." She said softly. “How do you like it here in Dawnshire, Esmae?” She gave another smile, with a little laugh. "I love it here in Dawnshire, it's peaceful. The smell of the ocean always, the different songs of birds." She spoke softly. "It gets lonely every once and a while, everyone is off having their families or keeping up with duties while I have none but keeping myself sane for the time being. Sometimes I just sit by the sea for hours, watching the waves until the feeling passes." She said, her bird wings still kept folded on her back tightly. She was oblivious of the change taking shape on her face until the skull formed around her eyes. They pulsed a bright orange, which set Esmae into a gasp as she could see the skull out of the corners of her eyes. She looked down into a puddle to see her reflection, shock on her face that her new horns had weathered and a strange skull-like mask sat over her face. "What the hell?" She said quietly, looking back to Kratos. "Have . . . Have you ever seen anything like this?" She was fearful, her thoughts racing. She thought the way the King looked at her was flattering, but how would he look at her like this?
