The firefly girl was a nervous wreck. She had been staying up all night scoping out the packs. Jinthe was tired. She was hungry and thirsty. Her eyes hurt badly, and she had a horrible headache. She was coming up on Sabertooth. She tipped back her head and howled.
She had been in Starfall for many moons now. She had witnessed much in the several months she’d wandered these lands, her firefly appearance mirrored by only a few. And even then she was the only red Lamprydae. But not as scarce as the kitsunes and Flora, it seemed. Morpha were also very rare; she had only picked up rumors of two, in Hawthorne, and one was a couple months dead.
Elementals were abundant, anyway, and so too were Felis and any type of Ethereal. Colupus, Reptillia, Dracarae. Jinthe had scoped out all the bloodlines and deduced that Elementals, with all their subgroups, were too abundant for their own good.
She shifted restlessly. Jinthe was now more curious than nervous. She had had to fight off a fox earlier in the month, and was shocked at how easily she had dispatched it. It was as if . . . she had been trained. But she couldn’t remember anything.
“It started under neon lights, and then it all got dark!”
