Apparently the system has some major flaws in its design.

As it was originally designed, it wasn't designed to supply an average of 20 years worth of benefits by the number of people contributing to it today. Now that us Baby Boomers are retiring en masse, the system is about to be flexed somewhat beyond its design point. I don't think there's much doubt about that. A nation that's as far in debt as we are, and still spending prolifically, is eventually going to hit a brick wall. And what about Medicare? Far too many citizens of this nation have been far too careless with their physical health. I see nothing but rising medical costs on the horizon with today's retirees. I'm hedging my bets. I'm going to continue working for a bit. If nothing else, my kids will receive a larger inheritance.
