I've always leaned to the conservative side of preparing for retirement. Even though there were very many times in my younger family raising years, I could have used the money I was putting into a tax deferred plan to pay a lot of bills and buy things that were very much needed. In addition to buying those perks that weren't so necessary.
Putting much faith and stock, into today's federal government particularly, is a fool's errand. If they end up having to cut Social Security benefits by 20% in the future, I'll be just fine. Others will whine that the federal government needs to do more to take care of them. Even though the misinformation warnings have been being presented for decades now. Are you saying, "Why bother to believe what the government oversight people are telling us?"
I understand that many choose to spend money today, and to have and do things today because tomorrow is not guaranteed. But far too often people end up paying a hefty price further on down the road for today's carefree attitude. That's a choice they make. I'd rather have more security in my remaining years. I'd rather leave my heirs a little something to help boost their station in life.
The better part of everyone's life is all about making choices. Make good sound choices based on sound logic and common sense, and you typically come out ahead in the future. Make choices more heavily based in feelings and rationalizations, and you often wind up on the poopy end of the stick.
