Technology is rapidly eliminating both the range and charging time issues.

The better EVs already have greater range than all but the most long-ranged IC vehicles. Aluminum ion batteries, while still in their early phase of commercialization (house systems first - then EV use) will extend that range advantage and lower charge times even further. They're also far less flammable...although their operating temperature is high. Some EV disadvantages will likely remain for a while. Mostly the higher weight, but for some drivers, the driving experience itself isn't what they're looking for. I think we'll see both technologies (as well as various types of hybrid) alongside each other for a good while, although IC vehicles will almost certainly move to sustainable, lower-carbon-emission fuels.
